AUSTIN, Texas – Of all the mobile services I’ve seen at SXSW, Airbnb – which allows you to search for and “rent” properties for any length of time via your phone – is probably the best.
I’m apparently not the only one who thinks it’s great, either, with the firm being nominated this year for a SXSW Interactive Award in the Mobile category for the Airbnb iPhone App, which launched late last year and has already been downloaded 160,000 on iTunes.
Need an example of how it works? The firm was managed to find spots in Austin, Texas, for thousands of SXSWesters who couldn’t find a hotel last minute, or who preferred to be in the intimacy of a real home, rather than a cold and expensive room serviced space.
Be it for a few days or a few weeks, the service purports to offer a safe, fraud proof service to find a comfortable space to live, wherever you are, or rent out your own space, should you need a bit of extra cash. Simple, yet genius.
