When a senior executive leaves his plum position at Intel to pursue “other interests,” you know something’s slightly fishy – and that’s the case with the sudden departure of Intel’s senior VP and GM of mobile, Anand Chandrasekher.
Of course it’s no secret that Intel’s push into the ultra mobile space hasn’t been a huge success. In fact, it hasn’t had any success, with not a single mobile phone or commercially viable tablet running on Atom. ARM, to put it bluntly, has won the arms race and Intel has found the man to take the fall. Chandrasekher.
Moorestown was the straw that broke the camel’s back, it seems, but Intel is not publicly giving up its wireless war, even though its troops have either deserted the battlefield or fallen on their light sabers.
“We [are making] the investments needed to ensure that the best user experience on smartphones and handhelds runs on Intel Architecture, and to ship a phone this year,” said Intel executive VP David Perlmutter, thought to be Intel’s second in command.
Perlmutter also half heartedly wished his departing colleague a good journey onwards, noting “We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Anand for numerous contributions to Intel over his 24-year career here, and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
24 years and all he gets is a lousy “wish you well in future endeavors”? Nice, Intel, nice. Maybe AMD will snap him up before Anand becomes a… Bom…bom, bom, bom, BOM!
