China Mobile taps Spirent for fiber evaluation

China Mobile Ltd. (CHL) has tapped Spirent Communications to trial high density fiber channel director switches from multiple vendors in its evaluation laboratory. Spirent noted that following the evaluation, China Mobile is expected to standardize around its fiber channel switch testing.
Spirent noted that its test center solution is designed to reduce the total cost of ownership for customers by eliminating the complexity of multiple systems. Terms of the agreement were not released.
China Mobile announced last month that it added nearly 62 million customers to its network in 2010, pushing its total customer base to 584 million subscribers. The carrier’s 3G network, which uses the TD-SCDMA standard, accounted for just over 20 million of those subscribers.
