Offers.com launches "local offers" to deal aggregator

Offers.com LogoThose who sift through emails from Groupon, LivingSocial, Entertainment.com, Crowdsavings, Restaurant.com and others, now have a new local option to view the best deals in their cities from Austin-based coupon provider Offers.com.

The site now offers “local city deals” to 75 cities, for users to view the top picks from Offers.com editors, who consolidate, pick offers by broadest appeal or highest value and send a single email of the top three choices each morning. And of course, hometown favorite Austin, is one of the 75 cities.

“Something that is $50 for a $250 value will be one (of the top picks) where something else like pole-dancing probably won’t be,” said Steve Schaffer, founder and CEO of Vertive, Inc. “Offline and online are starting to mold together more, so local is essential.”

Users can visit the Offers.com website to view all other local deals for the day. Schaffer also says the company is contemplating a mobile strategy.

“When you look at the amount of mobile and web traffic, so much of the commerce is happening on the iPad,” Schaffer said. “We think the browser experience is just as good as the app experience as long as we’re keeping an eye on it, but we are looking at adding value mobility with apps and we’re seeing a growing amount of our traffic going mobile.”

Offers are verified, rated and updated daily by the Offers.com editorial team. Users that enable the “my locker” function can view offers, categories, cities, companies or stores they are interested in as well as receive updates via email or on Facebook when offers are added or changed.

Since its launch in Feb. 2009, the company aggregates discount offers from more than 3,000 online stores and companies in 190 categories such as travel and entertainment, computers and electronics, fashion and beauty, home and outdoors, and more. Approximately 500 offers of coupons and deals are added to the website daily. The company expanded to sites in the U.K. and Canada last year and employs more than 40 people in the Austin office to manage all three sites.

Vertive LLC, the parent company of Offers.com, raised $7 million worth of funding from private equity firm Susquehanna Growth Equity LLC in October 2010.
