GENBAND offers cash and prizes for developers challenge

Genband LogoTelecommunications and infrastructure service solutions provider GENBAND is pushing efforts to attract third-party developers by providing cash awards for the top entries in the company’s 2011 GENFuzion Developers Challenge.

The Frisco-based hardware developer will accept entries until July 15, and offer cash to developers using GENBAND’s application programming interface (API) on it’s A2 converged applications server, an applications platform for SIP and IMS. Winners should be announced Aug. 19.

The GENBAND A2 gives enterprise and consumer users access to voice and video calling, instant messaging, conferencing and other telephony services.

There are five categories for participants including mobility, video, productivity, lifestyle, and unified communications.

Winners in each category will receive $15,000 for top honors, $10,000 for finishing second, $5,000 for third place, with an additional five honorable mention awards per category worth $300 each. All selections will receive press and promotion.

Contest participants must utilize the A2 SOPI interface to communications-enable the home or office experience, applications must be new or within a year old, and special consideration will be given to applications that cross more than one category.

Submissions need to include a PowerPoint presentation with descriptions of intended use, screen captures and benefits for the user, a demonstration of the application on video, and developer contact information.

The mobile category focuses on an A2 application that leverages mobile phones or tablets for consumer or enterprise accessibility, while the video category seeks an application that leverages the A2 video calling or video conferencing capabilities. The lifestyle category seeks consumer applications that leverage the A2 to communications-enable the home via computer, television or other consumer device, and the productivity category will seek an A2 powered application that increases the productivity of an employee in a business setting such as healthcare, education, hospitality, financial or other vertical industry.

Lastly, the unified communication category seeks applications leveraging the A2 for messaging, conferencing, collaboration and presence to provided a unified communications experience for the consumer or enterprise user.

Coral CEA, a not-for-profit community organization that leverages technologies and expertise in the web collaboration and communications enabled applications (CEAs) domain, will host the contest.
