Samsung Galaxy 10.1v goes on sale in Australia

The original Tegra 2-packing, thicker Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1v announced at CES, complete with 8-MP camera is being launched as a limited edition by Vodafone, after Samsung scrapped the device in favor of a slimmer version sans camera.

Today the tab hit Vodafone stores in Australia after having previously been available for pre-order online. As of time of writing, it had already sold out in most locations across the country.

You might think that this is an impressive feat by both Vodafone and Samsung, but heres the catch; that “Limited Edition” tag the device comes with is for good reason – only a limited number of these thicker tablets were made before Samsung switched to producing the slimmer version.

We’re informed that major Vodafone stores across the country only received five tablets each with a lot of those being snapped up by employees before the public even got the chance – which if you ask us is a bit dodgy!

The reason for the high demand is the rather low cost of the device, coming in at only $729 AUD ($783 USD) for an outright purchase, or an even cheaper $727 ($780USD) all-up if purchased on a 12 month $39 ($41 USD) data plan that includes 1.5gb of data. While a ‘whopping’ $2 saving may seem a ridiculous reason to buy the tab on contract, bear in mind that the contract option allows those without ready cash to pay just $259 down and then $39 a month over 12 months.

There’s no news on when or even if stores will get new stock, or how many devices Vodafone Australia even has to sell, so our advice to Aussie readers is to get in early and try and nab a remaining unit while you still can!
