Looking for a little brotherly love, RCR Wireless News is hitting the streets of Philadelphia the week of June 6, as part of our global tour. As with every stop on our global tour, conference series and news desk, our team will engage the mobile community at the local level to better understand industry trends.
The RCR Wireless News Mobile Broadband Philadelphia tour will include several days meeting with local telecommunication leaders and associations as well as a conference.
As the country’s No. 5 largest city with more than 1.5 million people living within the city limits and more than 6.1 million people living in the surrounding metropolitan area, Philadelphia is indeed a hub of activity. According to a 2005 PricewaterhouseCoopers survey, Philadelphia ranked No. 4 among U.S. cities and No. 9 across in the globe in GDP at $312 billion.
Like much of the country, Philadelphia is witnessing a rebound in economic growth driven by employment gains. The telecommunications space is seen as a key driver in that growth as the city hosts a number of major players in the space, including Comcast Corp., Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Airband Communications Inc. and others.
Our visit to Philadelphia will also include a half-day in person and online conference on June 8 at the Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel, where attendees will be able to get a better understanding of how carriers and suppliers are addressing the market’s insatiable demand for mobile data.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. with our pre-conference program that will include our live Morning Brew segment, a sponsored webinar and our Power Hour.
The conference itself will begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration and an exhibit area, followed by the conference proceedings at 1 p.m. The conference will include a general session for all attendees as well as break-out sessions along two tracks: Applications, co-hosted with Mobile Monday Philadelphia; and an Infrastructure track co-hosted with the Pennsylvania Wireless Association and moderated by RCR Wireless News Editor Dan Meyer.
Scheduled speakers and panel members for the conference include:
–Shiv K. Bakhshi, Mobile Perspectives
–Peter Murray, H&M Networks
–Ben Gibson, Aruba
–Chuck Sacco, Movitas
–Harry Martin, Verizon
–Mike Maney, Alcatel-Lucent

–Bob Ritter, Crown Castle

–Mike Gallop, TE Connectivity
–Rene Pachinbhayag, AT&T

Key topics that will be discussed at the event include:
“The Cube” – What will be the catalyst that drives carriers and tower companies to embrace this new smart antenna technology?
Policy – What policy decisions are driving mobile broadband investment and economic growth? What’s the latest on spectrum scarcity and broadband stimulus?
Carriers – What mobile broadband deployment challenges do carriers face across vertical industries in rural markets, the Northeast and nationwide?
