The word is out, and the Mango update is no longer a myth. Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) previewed its free Windows Phone upgrade this morning.
The update is for all current Windows Phone handsets, and should be available this fall. The updates will include features for new wireless devices from new partners Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE and existing members of the Windows Phone platform in Nokia, Dell, HTC, LG, and Samsung.
Microsoft plans to release a Beta SDK of the Windows Phone tools for free within the next 24 hours, allowing developers the chance to tinker with the update.
Microsoft is introducing conversation threads, which the company says will allow users to switch between Facebook messages, SMS and MSN Messenger chats seamlessly when communicating with the same person. The company claims that group messaging tiles through emails or IMs will be more efficient, with mentions of improved integration with both LinkedIn and Twitter as a whole.
The Mango update includes an upgrade to Internet Explorer 9, which will now support HTML5 and an unspecified improvement to the Bing search engine is also part of the release. In addition, Live Tiles will now allow the display of app information, creating an improved environment for multitasking.
