The greater Los Angeles metro area shed more jobs in the telecommunications sector in April, continuing an ongoing downward trend, according to new data from the Department of Labor.
All six geographic areas tracked by RCR Wireless News in the Southern California region lost telecommunications-related jobs. Overall, 1,600 jobs were lost in the month of April.
The Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana metro area, the largest of the six profiled, counted 34,300 telecommunications-related jobs at the end of April, marking a 1.7% decline from the previous month and down 4.8% from April 2010.
Telecom jobs in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale area are declining as well, dropping 1.6% from the previous month to 25,400 jobs and down 3.8% from the year-ago period.
The Santa Ana-Anaheim-Irvine region shed 200 jobs in the telecommunications sector, dropping 2.2% from the previous month to 8,900 jobs total and dropped 7.3% from April 2010.
The Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario region cut 100 jobs last month, marking a 1.2% month-over-month decline and the same percentage drop on an annual basis. The Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura area lost 100 jobs, dropping 4.8% from the previous month to 2,000 jobs.
Finally, the San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos region shed 200 jobs, dropping 2.5% from the previous month to 8,000 telecommunications-related jobs total.
