Chilean Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Pedro Pablo Errazuriz, confirmed the decision of the administration of President Piñera to speed up the processing and approval of a bill designed to correct the current gaps in the regulations for telecommunications towers construction.
According to Chile’s telecom agency (Subtel) the issue has caused confusion for tower constructors in both urban and suburban areas, which has impacted consumer satisfaction. There are currently 21 million mobile phone customers in the country.
The bill looks to set a standard for installing antennas to ensure adequate network coverage.
