It may be the height of summer, but MetroPCS Communications Inc. (PCS) is running back-to-school promotions on two new handsets as well as some of its existing models. The flat-rate operator is selling Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.’s M835 device for $79, and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.’s Freeform III for $49.
The Huawei M835 device uses the Android 2.2 (Froyo), operating system and is geared toward first-time smartphone users or people who want a smartphone but are on a budget. “The SWYPE-enabled Huawei M835 also includes GPS navigation, 3.2 megapixel camera with video capabilities and an MP3 Music Player. All of these features are available with MetroPCS’ $50 smartphone service plan, including all applicable taxes and regulatory fees,” the operator noted.
The Samsung Freeform III features unlimited messaging, email and access to social networks, with a QWERTY keypad, 1.3 megapixel camera and MP3 music player. The device is available on MetroPCS’ $40, $45 or $50 monthly service plans.
MetroPCS said it is offering promotional pricing on the Kyocera Torino ($29), Samsung Messenger III ($69), Samsung Galaxy Indulge ($299), and LG Optimus M ($99).
