Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo Inc. (DCM) said it has acquired an approximately 25% stake in Vietnam’s largest mobile content provider VMG Media Joint Stock Company for $18.3 million. DoCoMo noted the deal represents its first investment in the Vietnamese market.
Vietnam’s largest telecom operator, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, holds a 29% stake in VMG.
DoCoMo said it expects to share its experience in content distribution with VMG in an attempt to boost the Japanese carrier’s value-added services business in the Asia-Pacific region.
