The tablet market in India saw another new entrant with HCL Infosystems launching its Android-based tablet, the ME X1. Priced at a little over $210, HCL said these tablets were built based on detailed market research and come loaded with consumer-oriented apps like Jeevan Sathi, Clear Trip and Hungama.
Powered by the Android 2.3 operating system, 1 Ghz processor, 2-megapixel camera, 512 megabytes of RAM and 4 gigabytes of internal memory. It also provides users an option of data connectivity through USB dongles. The 7-inch screen offers full high-definition 1080 pixel video support.
Harsh Chitale, CEO of HCL Infosystems said “As a brand we are aligning ourselves with the consumer’s unmet desire to live the life he wishes for. We want our products to be one of the prime enablers to the life that our consumer aspires for and we are confident that with our expertise in the industry a device like the X1 will unleash innovative models of usage both in the B2B and B2C segments backed by customized applications.”
ME Connect enables transfer of content to it from any other computing device. The device also connects to HCL’s app market ME App Store which supposedly has more than 10,000 applications.
The ME X1 would face competition from similar priced tablets, namely the Reliance 3G Tab, Beetel Magiq and iBall Slide to name a few. Besides these the market has the top end players like Apple’s iPad, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab and Motorola Xoom. It will be interesting to see who survives and succeeds in the this war of tablets.
