China Telecom’s (CHA) push into the U.S. market continues as the telecom giant announced an agreement with AT&T (T) to expand their existing relationship delivering telecom solutions to multinational companies.
The expansion includes migrating AT&T’s existing IP-VPN service into China and jointly deploying an expanded suite of VPN-based services, telepresence, managed hosting and cloud-based services, network integration services and enterprise mobility solutions. In addition, the two companies will connect their MPLS-based IP networks in the United States designed to support the expansion of Chinese companies outside of their home country.
The agreement also calls for the two companies to provide bilateral Wi-Fi roaming agreement to enterprise customers and the possibility of providing mutual support in other regions of the world.
“Through the strategic collaboration between China Telecom and AT&T, China Telecom will be able to enhance its end-to-end service capabilities via AT&T networks in the United States,” said Kou Fendga, managing director of China Telecom’s global business. “We will better serve our China-based and Asian customers in the United States. China Telecom and AT&T will also be able to directly provide bilateral Wi-Fi roaming capabilities for each other’s customers so that they can enjoy enhanced wireless broadband services.”
AT&T and China Telecom also currently operate a joint venture under the Shanghai Symphony Telecommunications name.
China Telecom’s Americas subsidiary has recently announced plans to open offices in Los Angeles and Chicago. China Telecom is currently the country’s third-largest wireless operator with about 117 million wireless customers.
