UNE EPM names interim president

Colombian public carrier UNE EPM Telecomunicaciones SA named David Escobar Arango as its president for a transition period effective Jan. 3, 2012. The move comes after outgoing President Horacio Vélez de Bedout submitted his resignation to the board this month.

Arango, an engineer by training, is currently UNE EPM’s vice president of corporate markets.

The period of time that Arango will serve as UNE EPM president has not been defined. It depends on the elected mayor of Medellin, Aníbal Gaviria Correa, and the EPM designated manager.

Bedout will stay as president until Jan. 2. After that, he will become a manager at the Institute for the Development of Antioquia (Idea).
