LAS VEGAS – “It is too early to evaluate HP’s new product. And it has still to be proven by clients. What I can say at this moment is that EMC leads this market with a huge share of our backup solutions,” Rodrigo Gazzaneo, EMC’s vspecialists for Latin America, told to RCR Wireless News, in response to HP’s leapfrogged’ comment.
“At EMC World weeks ago, we also announced a new generation of Data Domain platform, and it is possible that the HP performance study needs to be revised to this new platform from EMC, which also brings more advanced processors and offers performance gains,” Gazzaneo explained at this week’s HP Discover 2012 event. “We will wait to see how the market reacts to these announcements, recognizing that our competitors are investing in similar technologies. This kind of action validates our strategy in the market.”
Over recent years, EMC has focused its strategy on IT transformation through cloud computing and business applications, including big data. The company recently announced the acquisition of cloud-storage startup Syncplicity, in a move to offer enterprises cloud-based sync and share solutions. As the firm noted, this capability is increasingly required by clients in response to the proliferation of mobile, social and cloud computing. Terms of the transaction were not released.

“Our vision is the vision of the leader, and just now our competitors are paying attention to the convergence of cloud and big data,” said Gazzaneo, adding EMC has invested in development and strategic acquisitions to implement a division for computation of large data focused on this segment.
With new releases of Data Domain, EMC aims to offer a solution to protect and support multiple database technologies, such as Oracle and EMC Greenplum Database.
“Big data market is developing with accelerated rate of growth and enormous potential impact on business. Big data applications will enable competitive advantages for organizations that make better use of existing data to take advantage of new opportunities quickly. Protecting these applications is critical, and EMC already has in their offers technologies that can do it very well today,” Gazzaneo added.
