Clearwire pads WiMAX network, adds Jolt Mobile

Clearwire nabbed another wholesale partner announcing a deal to host Jolt Mobile’s prepaid wireless service. The current agreement calls for Jolt to add Clearwire’s WiMAX mobile broadband offering to its service structure. Financial terms of the deal were not released.

Clearwire’s current WiMAX network covers approximately 130 million potential customers. The carrier is in the process of rolling out LTE-based services across its network, noting that as that network rolls out it expects to work with Jolt to add those capabilities. Jolt’s current focus is on prepaid SIM cards.

While Clearwire’s future is decidedly focused on LTE, the carrier’s current WiMAX network continues to support a growing number of companies. In addition to being the foundation of Sprint Nextel’s initial “4G” network offering, Clearwire has signed WiMAX agreements with NetZero and FreedomPop.
