Quest for Quest Software continues as Dell reportedly outbids Insight Venture Partners

The bidding war for Quest Software (QSFT) continues today, as Dell (DELL) has reportedly again outbid Insight Venture Partners. Reuters is reporting that Dell has now bid $2.32 billion, or $27.50 per share, for the maker of software that helps companies manage networks, mobile devices and databases.

The bidding for Quest started in March, when Insight offered $23 per share for the company. Earlier this month, Dell reportedly bid $25.50, and the venture capital firm came back with a $25.75 offer. At $27.50, Dell’s latest reported offer looks like a clear indication that the Texas company means business and intends to complete an acquisition of the California software company. Dell has already made other software purchases this year, and has told analysts that it wants to offer customers complete solutions and not just hardware.
