Range Networks has developed an open source software defined radio implementation of the GSM Radio Network. The company has been funded by investors who want to help extend telecommunications to underserved populations, and make a profit at the same time. Recently Range has gotten a boost from negative publicity about Huawei because its products compete with Huawei’s.
