BT, Truphone partner on cloud-based recording service

U.K.-based telecom provider BT reported a deal with Truphone to market a mobile recording service targeting U.S. forms looking to conform to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act.

The service requires a user to insert a specific Truphone SIM card into an unlocked mobile device, which then can record and store calls in a “secure” cloud-based environment. That ability is designed to meet requirements of the act calling for “oral recordkeeping” of “all companies operating or doing business with an organization in the [United States] for certain regulated trading activities.”

Truphone noted that “this information must be stored for a year in a retrievable format that can be easily searched, and includes conversations and data interactions made on mobile devices such as mobile phones and smartphones.” Truphone added that the solution can support any Global Certification Forum certified mobile handset or operating system and uses its integrated global network and technology to enable the recording of calls.

BT added that up to 70,000 mobile phone customers in the United States could be impacted by the Dodd-Frank Act “and similar future regulations.” Both companies will offer the service, with BT planning to offer the service through its management services division.
