A patent application filed by Nokia shows a concept for a smart watch that has several faces. Presumably all the faces would be interactive touch screens, enabling users to move from one type of content to another by tilting their wrist.
According to Nokia’s patent filing, “the multi-segment wearable accessory may be configured to provide various types of functionality and may be worn by the user so as to reduce the number of independent mobile terminals that the user must otherwise carry.”
With Samsung, Sony and even Qualcomm all giving Pebble a run for its money in the smart watch arena, it seems about time Nokia made its play. However, the patent application was filed long before Nokia agreed to sell its device business to Microsoft, which is rumored to have its own smart watch in the works. Apple, long rumored to have a smart watch in the works, has yet to announce anything concrete.
