Opera Mobile Store reaches 100 million user mark

The Opera Mobile Store is now ranked as the fifth largest global app store, with 100 million users on its mobile app store platform. Currently, Opera Software serves more than 350 million Internet customers across the globe, as well as 120 mobile operators with a wide range of services and software options.

Last year the company saw rapid expansion of its mobile store platform, which grew by 172% since the end of 2012. The company saw increasing expansion in the number of page views and downloads from the Opera Mobile Store, each of which grew 250% over the course of last year. 42.7% of total downloads were Android apps. The Opera Mobile Store includes more than 200,000 mobile programs and games.

“In just over two years, the Opera Mobile Store has shown strong growth – from 18 million monthly visitors to 100 million, and has seen a fivefold increase in the number of apps offered,” Opera Software CEO Lars Boilesen said. “The compression technology in Opera’s browsers, combined with the broad portfolio of apps in the Opera Mobile Store across many different platforms, have resulted in massive adoption of the store worldwide.

Individuals can access the store through the company’s Opera Mini, Mobile Classic and Opera for Android browsers. Users can also visit apps.opera.com through their smartphone browser’s to connect with the system.

The mobile application store has also permeated several quickly expanding markets across the globe, including sectors in India, Russia, Brazil, Indonesia and South Africa. The company said its top three user bases were located in India, the United States and Indonesia.

Service providers MTS Belarus and MTS Ukraine have established co-branded application stores with Opera Software, creating a combined user base of 28 million. Additionally, the company also partnered with Eastern European search engine Yandex, the fourth largest in the world. Opera Mobile Store and Yandex created a cross-app store publishing partnership, allowing users to download the platform in the Yandex app store, as well as the ability to access Yandex through Opera’s mobile store.
