Netflix is turning up the heat on the service providers who deliver its content, particularly Verizon. Last month Verizon denied reports that it is throttling the popular video service — now Netflix says its average primetime speeds on Verizon’s fiber optic network have dropped by 14%. Verizon and other big service providers want Netflix to pay for content delivery — but Netflix appears to be trying to make its case directly to consumers. Last year it released rankings of Internet service providers based on how fast they were able to deliver Netflix, and now it is letting viewers know that if they can’t watch the shows they want, they may need to blame their service provider.
