Several organizations in the telecom sector welcomed new talent this past week, including appointing individuals to executive vice president, manager of communications, senior vice president and chief executive officer roles.

SAP names new global general manager
This week, SAP announced the appointment of Howard Stevens as its new global general manager for its Telecommunications Business Unit. Stevens will supervise SAP's portfolio of end-to-end offerings, applications and services for clients worldwide. Within his new role, Stevens and his team will work to provide solutions tailored specifically for CSPs and other parties in the industry. Stevens previously worked as the organization's senior vice president and head of global sales.

FiberLight's new executive vice president of service delivery
Recently, FiberLight, announced the addition of Kristine Kropp as their new executive vice president of service delivery. Kropp will oversee planning and development efforts, and also be in charge of the business's back office systems and overall operations. In her new position, Kropp will work alongside FiberLight's recently named CEO Paul Pierron, and assist in decision making within the organization's customer service and sales support departments. Kropp and the company have plans to implement several new technologies and practices aimed at boosting customers' experience with services being offered. FiberLight will also benefit from Kropp's 15 years of experience in leadership roles within the telecom sector.

This is just one of a number of recent career changes in the company. Besides adding Kropp and Pierron to the team, FiberLight also welcomed Larry Wilson as the new senior vice president of sales last year.

Rural Wireless Association appoints new manager of communications
In late February, the Rural Wireless Association named Robert Mardis as their new manager of communications. RWA CEO Tanya Sullivan said the organization has experienced steady growth in recent years and decided to add Mardis as the group continues on its expansion path. Mardis will assist in efforts to increase RWA's presence with members and policy makers in Washington, D.C.

Frontier Communications welcomes new senior vice president
Also this week, Frontier Communications appointed Mark Nielsen as their new senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Nielsen's new position went into effect on March 4, including his role in Frontier's senior leadership team. Previously, Nielsen performed administrative duties in Praxair Inc., Raytheon Co., and also worked as chief of staff for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. The new Frontier employee also has legal experience and served a two-year term on the Connecticut Legislature, a term in the House and two terms in the Senate from 1993 to 1999. Frontier CEO Maggie Wilderotter said Nielsen's wealth of experience is a considerable advantage to business processes at the organization. In his new role, Nielsen will work to forward the company's efforts to close an acquisition agreement with AT&T for a wireline business, statewide fiber network and U-verse offerings in Connecticut.

Champion ONE names new chief executive officer
Optical transceiver provider Champion ONE recently named Jon Jutila as the new chief executive officer of the company. The organization made the announcement on March 4 and looks forward to leveraging Jutila's longstanding experience in boosting revenues and market shares, as well as in overall telecommunications, information technology, optical networking and optical components. Jutila was previously employed by Alcatel-Lucent, where he held several senior executive roles surrounding cloud computing and data center systems.
