Agilent Technologies released a series of 30-second demos based on engineers’ use of its Advanced Design System 2014 software, which is designed to enable electronic design automation for RF and microwave applications.

The company said it listened to ADS user ideas and feedback to create the user-inspired videos, which can be seen here.

—JDSU launched an Android application that puts fiber test tools on existing smartphones or tablets. The FiberChekMobile app includes the ability to connect a P5000i digital analysis microscope or an MP-series YSB optical power meter to a smartphone or tablet and conduct certain tests as well as save and share certification reports from the mobile device. The company’s use case video illustrates how the app could be used.

The company also unveiled a line of products for developing and characterizing next-generation networks up to 400G.

—Ixia completed a financial review after the resignation of its CEO due to falsified credentials. Ixia did not find any deliberate financial misconduct, but did discover errors that led its CFO, Tom Miller, to resign this week. Read RCR Wireless News’ full story.

— Anritsu’s MS2830A Spectrum Analyzer/Signal Analyzer has a new driver designed to provide compatibility with the Monics satellite carrier monitoring system from SAT, which is used by  satellite operators, service providers as well as government agencies. The integration of the Anritsu equipment into the Monics monitoring system allows the use of the MS2830A for RF measurements such as bandwidth and center frequency, and detecting interference based on known carrier plans and saved reference traces, according to Anritsu.

—Test Equipment Plus introduced its Signal Hound BB60A real-time spectrum analyzer and RF recorder. The family-company, which sells used test equipment, provides repair and calibration services and has branched into its own equipment designs, said that the spectrum analyzer includes a RF recorder that uses USB 3.0 for faster data streaming. The BB60A operates from 9 KHz to 6 GHz.

Bruce Devine, CEO of Test Equipment Plus, noted that interference hunting and real-time spectrum monitoring “have become a necessity,” but the equipment can be cost-prohibitive, especially with RF recording capability.

“Advances in commercial off-the-shelf components, coupled with superb engineering, made it possible for us to offer the Signal Hound BB60A. It provides a high value/low price real-time RF spectrum analyzer with RF recorder capability,” he added.

–Speaking of USB 3.0, Tektronix Communications now has protocol decode solutions for USB 3.0 superspeed inter-chip and other interfaces used by the mobile industry. Those include the RF front-end control interface, as well as what it says is the industry’s first electrical testing and decode solution for high-speed synchronous interface.

Tektronix has also been working on integrating its recent acquisitions into its portfolio, and said recently that its December acquisition of Newfield Wireless is already winning new customers. The company announced in conjunction with the Mobile World Congress 2014 event that Newfield Wireless’ TrueCall geo-analytics solution and visualization for the radio access network is now fully integrated into its assurance solutions to offer new and better visibility down to the device level. Tektronix said it has picked up three tier-one customers since the acquisition.

Watch RCR Wireless News’ video interview with both companies at MWC 2014, in which they discuss the benefits of the merger:

—Teradyne held its sixth annual Device Test Seminar series, drawing a reported crowd of one thousand engineers, primarily from the Asia-Pacific region. Randy Kramer, manager for Teradyne’s SOC factory applications engineering organization, said it has seen participation grow more than 200% since it began in 2009. The technical seminars focus on addressing the testing requirements of the latest devices and new technologies, as well as testing techniques that provide faster time-to-market and reduced cost.

–The Wi-Fi Alliance granted authorization to AT4 Wireless to perform certification testing for WMM-admission control designed to improve the reliability of applications in progress, such as voice and video; as well as enterprise-quality voice over Wi-Fi.

—Anite was recognized for its contribution to TD-LTE development with an innovation award from the Global TD-LTE Initiative at MWC 2014.
