AT&T is accelerating its march into video ahead of its planned purchase of DirecTV. The company’s Otter Media venture will buy control of one of the largest YouTube content networks, Fullscreen.
Fullscreen claims 4 billion monthly views, and says it now wants to launch a subcription service. The value of the deal was not disclosed, but Re/code pegs it between $200M and $300M, which would value each of those monthly views at about 6 cents.
Meanwhile AT&T’s U-verse has struck a deal with HBO and Amazon. U-verse is offering HBO and Amazon Prime, along with highspeed broadband, for $40 per month. The offer is available online only, and after the first year customers will pay standard rates for both HBO and Amazon Prime.
