A $1.2 billion deal is expanding American Tower’s reach in Brazil while, in India, telco giant Tech Mahindra is expanding its global reach with acquisition of U.S.-based Lightbridge Communications.
American Tower made that deal with Telecom Italia’s TIM Cellular. That price tag buys American Tower 6,400 towers in the booming South American market.
The company projects the new towers will drive $171 million in estimated annual revenue.
In 2012 American Tower bought 558 towers from Telefónica’s Movistar Chile and, in 2011, the firm bought a whopping 2,500 towers from Telefónica’s Mexican subsidiary.
Over in India, IT service provider Tech Mahindra announced its acquisition of Lightbridge Communications.
There’s a few regulatory approval steps to go through but Tech Mahindra expects the deal to close in early 2015.
Lightbridge is one of the world’s largest telecom network engineering services providers, which is just one portion of Tech Mahindra’s business.
Tech Mahindra is paying $250 million for Lightbridge which has annual revenues in the $400 million range and some 5,000 employees in more than 50 countries.
In more tower news, construction heavyweight Dycom Industries may be feeling a little pressure, according to industry analysts.
Dycom has been a big part of built-out LTE networks for major carriers Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility.
As those massive, nationwide construction projects near the end, company earnings could come under pressure, according to some analysts.
