Former Sprint executive joins PCIA to help with workforce training
Wireless industry trade association PCIA said that former Sprint executive John Harrison will take on the newly created role of senior adviser. Harrison will join Phil Larsen, director of training and education at PCIA, in working with Department of Labor grant awardee Virginia State University to implement its wireless workforce training program.
Harrison capped off his 30-year career at Sprint as VP of network development. He was involved in the deployment of Sprint’s Network Vision, and was responsible for Sprint’s managed service agreement with Ericsson.

New president for Oracle?
Bloomberg is reporting that Thomas Kurian will be Oracle’s new president of product, potentially filling a void created when company founder Larry Ellison made former presidents Mark Hurd and Safra Catz co-CEOs of Oracle.
Kurian is EVP of Oracle’s software group, a position he has held since 2009.
Apple reportedly hires HP exec
Apple has hired former Hewlett-Packard executive John Solomon, according to Re/code. The iPhone-maker is eager to sell more iOS devices to enterprise customers, and may have its eye on the 3D printer space as well. Solomon was a VP in HP’s printing and personal systems group.
Workforce news: The big picture
The economy added 252,000 jobs last month, making 2014 the best year for job growth since 1999. The U.S. unemployment rate has fallen to 5.6%, its lowest since 2008, but the labor force participation rate fell to 62.7% and average hourly pay has slipped 5 cents to $24.57.
