Vodafone Germany taps NFV for VoLTE; Consolidated launches NetCracker OSS

VoLTE deployment runs across VMware NFV platform

VMware reported that its VCloud for NFV platform has been deployed by Vodafone Germany to support voice-over-LTE services.

VMware said its platform is supporting virtual network functions from multiple network vendors to power the VoLTE service. Vodafone Germay noted the VoLTE service currently covers more than 70% of its coverage area.

VoLTE has been discussed as a good first step for mobile operators in launching NFV-based commercial services. As the technology runs over IP-based data networks and has a built-in limitation to legacy interoperability, it is said to be a good fit for initial virtualization deployments.

NetCracker scores live OSS launch

NetCracker Technology said broadband service provider Consolidated Communications commercially launched NetCracker’s OSS solution in a move to consolidate service fulfillment systems.

The deployment includes NetCracker’s Service Inventory, Service Order Management, Service Information Management and Resource Inventory solutions. Consolidated said it expects the platform to improve system efficiency and automation as it looks to scale operations. The broadband provider currently offers services across portions of 11 states.

As part of the deployment, NetCracker said it also provided professional services by migrating data from Consolidated’s legacy systems to the new platform.

NetCracker announced last month that telecom giant Telefónica has implemented its business support systems platform supporting seven Latin American operations.
