This week on HetNet Happenings, RCR Wireless News Managing Editor Sean Kinney discusses microwave backhaul and related topics with Amir Zoufonoun, CEO and founder of Exalt Wireless.
Zoufonoun has three decades of experience working in the wireless industry with companies such as Western Multiplex and Harris where he helped develop and launch numerous wireless systems used by thousands of carrier and enterprise customers around the world.
Zoufonoun founded Exalt Communications in 2004 and then led the company through a management buyout in 2014 to become Exalt Wireless.
The duo explore topics including how microwave backhaul will fit into mobile networks of the future, particularly 5G deployments that will first pop up in ultra-dense metro networks.
Zoufonoun described microwave as a complement, rather than a replacement, to fiber backhaul.
He discussed how jurisdictional and right-of-way challenges will increasingly drive deployment toward microwave by virtue of cost, speed of deployment and aesthetics.
Zoufonoun also discusses a particular deployment in Arizona; contractor AireBeam used Exalt’s ExploreAir microwave backhaul system for a VoIP network.
HetNet Happenings looks into all things DAS, small cell, Wi-Fi and much more.
