Sprint CEO calls bullsh*t via Twitter on T-Mobile US’ latest promotion

Latest round of promotions draws Twitter barbs from Sprint and T-Mobile US CEOs

Rivalry between mobile operators is heating up both in the real world and in the Twitter-verse as Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure took to the social-media site to blast T-Mobile US CEO – and Twitter fan – John Legere.

Legere kicked off the latest feud by taunting Sprint’s recent “All-In” rate plan launch, giving the offering some credit, but saying it was a “swing and a miss.”

Claure, countered using salty language that has become a staple of Legere by claiming T-Mobile US’ recently launched iPhone leasing program was “misleading,” and using the hashtag #Tmobilelikehell, as a play on Legere’s use of #Sprintlikehell.

The T-Mobile US offer allows customers to pay $15 per month over an 18-month term for an Apple iPhone 6 16GB device. The offer does require customers to either keep the device through the full 18 months before trading it in on a new device or keeping the device, or they can pay off the full remaining balance on the device at any time for a trade-in on a new device.

Sprint’s latest change did away with its iPhone-centric “iPhone for Life” plan that for $70 per month provided customers with an iPhone 6 16GB tied to unlimited domestic calling, messaging and data. The new plan is priced at $80 per month and aligns pricing across all of Sprint’s high-end smartphones.

Legere has yet to respond to the latest barb, but with his history of Twitter usage, we can be sure something will be coming and it will likely include some rough language.

Competition between the two rivals has become animated as Sprint continues to hold off T-Mobile US as the nation’s No. 3 mobile operator in terms of customers. Analysts have predicted T-Mobile US could take over the No. 3 spot once second quarter results are released.
