NFV-focused program now includes 23 members
Overture Networks continues to boost its Harmony Partner Ecosystem program, announcing five new members focused on supporting service providers looking to deploy network functions virtualization platforms.
The program’s newest members include EdgeTeam, Fortinet, Silver Peak, Sonus and Supermicro. Those members join 18 current members of the program, including 6Wind, Aeroflex, Brocade, Certes Networks, Dell, EnterpriseWeb, H-Log QoS Telecom, InfoVista, Intel, Ixia, JDSU, Kapsch CarrierCom, Metaswitch Networks, Qosmos, Red Hat, Spirent TransCirrus, Veryx and Wind River.
“When service providers virtualize their environments, they want the ability to choose best-of-breed [virtual network functions], choose where to place those network functions – centralized, distributed, hybrid – and manage the VNF service life cycle quickly and efficiently as business requirements change,” said Brian Irish, director of marketing at Overture, on the new partners. “We are excited to be working with these new members and our existing Harmony partners to provide the industry with even more options and greater flexibility for service virtualization.”
Overture started the Harmony program last year, claiming the program was designed to ensure compatibility between NFV solutions being provided by different companies.
Earlier this year, Overture released the results of a collaborative effort showing robust performance of NFV service chaining. The testing, which was done in partnership with Brocade, Intel and Spirent, showed “zero packet loss throughput” for a pair of gigabit ports carrying “line-rate IMIX traffic through multiple [virtual network functions]in a pure-play NFV environment.” Overture noted that “pure-play NFV” is considered the running of software VNFs on standards servers with no specialized networking hardware.
RCR Wireless News spoke with Mike Heffner, senior director of technical product marketing at Overture Networks, on the testing results.
