Dual mode LTE small cells, enterprise outlook

AUSTIN, Texas – Market outlook for small cells deployments, in both the enterprise and carrier segments, was a major point of discussion during Verizon’s In Building Technology Users Forum; SpiderCloud Wireless director of enterprise services Art King spoke with RCR Wireless News about the show, how the startup fared in 2015 and more.

“The company has made major steps forward in enterprise commercialization, which is really the thing we needed to do as a company to both hit numbers, but also hit milestones,” King said.

Specific to work with Verizon, which hosts IBTUF each year for vendor partners, “What we’re seeing is a highly demanding customer that puts a premium on network quality – they don’t just need to deliver signal; they need to deliver awesome signal.”

King said two carrier small cells created problems with power needs and other issues.

“I think what we’re doing as an engineering organization is working upwards in the supply chain with our technology providers … to figure out how to get things more efficient to put more radios in,” King explained.

“The enterprise market,” King added, “is about 15% of the subscriber base but about 30% of revenue. The operator community is struggling with being at 100% marketshare among the buyers, so acquisition is by finding dissatisfied people and providing a superior product.”
