Altiostar to showcase its vRAN solution at Mobile World Congress, 2016 in Barcelona

Tewksbury, Massachusetts, US – February 18, 2015 – Altiostar announces its participation and demonstration of its industry leading carrier-grade Ethernet-based virtualized RAN (vRAN) solution that implements LTE-Advanced features and brings intelligence to the edge of the network for better utilization of the radio resource and to enhance quality of experience for the users, at world’s largest mobile industry event in Barcelona, Spain next week.

Altiostar will showcase key features that improve capacity, scalability and performance of the LTE network at this event with its vRAN solution. Altiostar’s innovative vRAN solution allows the operators to deploy a next generation RAN over any existing transport system, paving the way for a new era in highly scalable RAN deployment for today’s LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A pro and tomorrow’s 5G.

Notable among the features to be demonstrated are: UL-CoMP, which provides significant improvement in uplink performance; and Inter-site Carrier Aggregation, which provides significantly higher throughput and performance gains by reducing handover signaling. By demonstrating these features that are very challenging to implement with currently deployed RAN products and the underlying legacy architecture, Altiostar demonstrates that its vRAN solution is truly the architecture of choice for implementing and deploying these advanced features in the most flexible, scalable and cost effective way.

Altiostar will also demonstrate its Application Intelligence API. The promise of the vRAN platform is to bring intelligence to the mobile edge, i.e. the promise of Mobile Edge Computing (MEC). The eNodeBs that are deployed today lack this level of intelligence, therefore under utilizing precious spectrum resources. To enable rapid innovation with an ecosystem of complementary applications, Altiostar’s vRAN can provide granular, timely and valuable information to these applications via this API. This enables the operators to rapidly innovate by providing critical intelligence to the applications that are dominating the user space. Altiostar invites the application developers to work with its API to be part of its vRAN enabled application ecosystem.

Altiostar’s carrier grade vRAN functions will also be demonstrated at this event. Built on ETSI NFV architecture, Altiostar’s vRAN solution provides high availability and resiliency against software, hardware and network failures. This level of robustness is not available in the current RAN products.
