Vodafone upgrades sites in Qatar to improve 3G, LTE coverage
Vodafone Qatar launched high-definition voice technology across its 3G network, designed to improve voice call quality for subscribers.
The telco, a Vodafone Group subsidiary, said the technology offers clearer conversations, filters out background noise and allows for a better conference call experience.
“At Vodafone we carry a huge amount of voice traffic over our network so we are acutely aware of the importance of high-quality voice for our customers. Being part of one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world, Vodafone Group, we are able to bring the best technology to Qatar to empower people to make better connections,” said Vodafone Qatars COO Mohamed Al Sadah.
Last year, the Arab telco launched a plan to upgrade its network infrastructure. Under the initiative, hundreds of indoor and outdoor sites were installed offering increased 3G and LTE coverage. Vodafone’s network enhancement plan focused on increasing the capacity in the most populated areas in Qatar.
Vodafone Qatar ended 2015 with 1.5 million mobile subscribers. The telco initially launched LTE services in June 2014, and currently offers service through spectrum in the 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands.
Turkcell to launch ‘4.5G’ across Turkey on April 1
In other EMEA news, Turkish mobile operator Turkcell announced plans for the commercial launch of “4.5G” technology across cities in all 81 provinces on April 1.
“We have invested heavily in the spectrum auction held on Aug. 26, in order to bring the fastest mobile internet to our customers all over Turkey,” said Turkcell CEO Kaan Terzioglu.
Rival operators Vodafone Turkey and Turk Telekom also announced plans to start offering “4.5G” services next month. The three operators obtained multiband LTE spectrum licenses in an auction held last August by government regulator Information and Communication Technologies Authority.
