Red Hat’s Mobile Application Platform to power Telefónica’s global enterprise mobile platform
Telefónica Business Solutions is set to use Red Hat’s Mobile Application Platform as a global reference for operators within the Telefónica Group looking to mobilize business processes for customers.
Red Hat said Telefónica has been using the platform in some markets since 2012, as part of the telecom group’s Enterprise Managed Mobility solution. The solution is said to be powered by open standards-based technology designed to help the development, integration and deployment of mobile applications by enterprise customers. Red Hat noted in a survey last year that 90% of respondents at 200 organizations across the U.S. and Western Europe anticipate increasing investment in mobile application development within the next 12 months.
“To match the rate at which mobile is evolving in the enterprise, and better meet challenges such as security, scalability and back-end integration, many organizations are utilizing multitenant mobile platforms with open standards, and forming collaborative and strategic mobile centers of excellence,” Red Hat noted.
Telefónica, which has been at the forefront of the telecom world’s move towards virtualization platforms, said it was focused on using open standards to ease the transition to mobility for enterprise customers.
“Telefonica’s decision to establish the Red Hat Mobile Application Platform as its reference platform for mobile development aligns with our strategy to deploy multitenant, multi-operator solutions based on open standards,” said Juan Manuel Moreno, cloud director for Telefónica Business Solutions. “Our aim is to help expand our ecosystem of application developers, enable them to reuse code and foster greater cooperation between Telefónica’s operators around the world.”
