Huawei launches end-to-end NB-IoT solution

Huawei said the NB-IoT solution will be available in September

Huawei launched an end-to-end narrowband “internet of things” solution with the aim of helping operators expand their IoT services.
Huawei confirmed its new NB-IoT solution will be commercially available in September 2016, with plans to conduct a commercial trial in the last quarter of this year and release the solution for large-scale commercial use in late December.
The end-to-end NB-IoT solution includes a Smart Device Solution enabled by Huawei LiteOS and NB-IoT chipset; ENodeB base stations designed to evolve in support of NB-IoT; the IoT Packet Core said to support flexible deployment of core-in-a-box and network functions virtualization; and a cloud-based IoT Connection Management Platform with big data capabilities.
Huawei said the NB-IoT solution is designed to meet operators’ requirements for IoT services with low-power wide-area coverage.
“The number of cellular IoT connections worldwide will grow seven-fold over the next three to four years. NB-IoT will be a key driver for this trend and will also be one of the key untapped markets for operators,” said Jiang Wangcheng, VP of the marketing and solutions department under Huawei’s Products and Solutions division.

Huawei deploys smart street solution in Dubai Silicon Oasis

In related news, Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, the regulatory body for the Dubai Silicon Oasis technology park, in partnership with Huawei installed what it claims is the first smart street solution in the Middle East region.
The smart street solution’s digital signage capability is said to allow real-time display of news and information, while the integrated Wi-Fi transmitter offers internet access within a 300-meter radius. The solution also includes a CCTV solution, designed to ensure safety of businesses through intelligent surveillance while environmental sensors monitor outdoor temperature, humidity and air quality.
