Huawei and partners including Honeywell, Richfit, RFD, Evinsys and Bandweaver showcased solutions covering the industry chain of the oil and gas sector during the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2016.
Some of the solutions offered by the Chinese company and its partners include high-performance computing, digital production management, asset management, intelligent tanker management, oil and gas pipeline intrusion detection and data center.
“The Middle East is the most important area for the global energy market. In line with the digital transformation trend, Huawei has developed a series of smart energy solutions to meet the unique and specific needs of customers in the energy industry through joint innovations with leading partners such as Honeywell, ABB, Halliburton and SAP,” explained Yuan Qian, president of the marketing and solution sales department of Huawei Enterprise Business Group.
The executive said Huawei has served 14 of the world’s top 20 oil and gas companies, and worked on more than 38,000 kilometers of pipelines for oil and gas companies in 45 countries and regions.
Huawei and Honeywell partnered to deliver the natural gas pipeline project in Uzbekistan for Trans-Asia Gas Pipeline Company, which is a part of the “one belt, one road” initiative and Central Asia’s pipeline that transports natural gas to China.
Huawei’s portfolio for oil and gas companies includes Huawei Oil and Gas Production Solutions, which is designed to help oil and gas companies implement network access, video surveillance and multimedia digital trunking and efficient collaboration; Huawei’s Wireless Communication Solution for Refineries, which is designed to enable process control applications said to lower production costs; and Huawei Digital Communications Solution for Pipelines, which provides subsolutions, including network, video surveillance and security; and multimedia communications to support production and secure operations for oil and gas pipelines.
Samsung Electronics, China Mobile carry out 5G prototype trial in Beijing
In other Asia-Pacific news, Samsung Electronics announced it has successfully conducted a “5G” prototype trial in conjunction with China Mobile Research Institute, the research arm of China Mobile.
During the 5G trial test, which took place in Beijing, technologies like spatial modulation and filter bank multicarrier were said to be validated for the 3.5 GHz band. Using Samsung’s 5G prototype system and devices and beam forming technology, Samsung and China Mobile Research Institute sought to verify millimeter wave technology performance and frequency characteristics, including mobility, peak throughput and multi-user scheduling capacity, as well as mm wave transmission at indoor and penetration loss.
“To accelerate the realization of 5G standardization and commercialization in China, we will continue to strengthen our joint efforts with the Chinese government, as well as operators in the future,” said Dai Jun Zhang, VP and head of Samsung R&D Institute China.
