Solution set to cover seven Telefónica markets in Latin America.
ZTE announced an agreement with Telefónica to jointly build a large scale virtual IP multimedia subsytem network in Latin America. The network is expected to cover seven countries – Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Ecuador and Uruguay – in providing support for voice-over-LTE and voice-over-Wi-Fi services for Telefónica customers.
ZTE said it will deploy the solution as a virtual network function using its virtualization infrastructure. The solution is designed for seamless integration with Telefónica’s legacy networks, and is the first step in the carrier’s UNICA virtualization program. ZTE is currently working with Telefónica as a network functions virtualization supplier and said it has already reached onboarding capabilities over the UNICA solution.
ZTE claims to have deployed more than 100 commercial or trial versions of its Cloud UniCore platform, and work on virtualized platforms with carriers including Vodafone, Airtel Africa Group, VimpelCom, Deutsche Telekom, Telenor, China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom.
ZTE provides outdoor radio solution for STC in Saudi Arabia
In related news, ZTE and Saudi Arabia telecoms operator STC said they have completed deployment of a 1,000-hop microwave link.
ZTE said it provided STC with its NR8950 outdoor radio solution, which is desgigned to support high-capacity ethernet transmission for 3G, LTE and what it terms “Pre5G” with no requirement for indoor space.
