Huawei is working with Dubai Police on a long-term initiative for the implementation of public safety technology
In May last year, Huawei signed a memorandum of understanding with Dubai to collaborate on a long-term initiative for the implementation of public safety technology. Under the terms of the agreement, Huawei and Dubai Police will work together to identify how Huawei solutions can be deployed to aid in crime prevention and reduction as well as improve road safety by reducing incidents of accidents and fatalities.
Additionally, in October 2016, Huawei signed a long-term collaboration agreement with the Dubai Police to develop and deploy a safe city innovation center for Dubai’s security forces.
Brigadier Kamel Butti Al Suwaidi, director of the operations department of Dubai Police, said that this center will be a hub for innovation and new projects that involves futuristic technology. For example, he said that Dubai Police will focus on technologies like facial recognition and behavior recognition. The official also highlighted that Dubai Police will also focus on the internet of things (IoT), as well as big data.
The center will also be a permanent platform to showcase and test new products and innovation related to safe cities, he explained.
At the Gitex 2016 exposition, Dubai Police and Huawei showcased four advanced safe city solutions, including advanced facial recognition technology that is able to identify and track people within the systems parameter; an augmented reality (AR) solution and headset which allow the user to receive real-time data on the person or object they are looking at; a video content management (VCM) tool; and an anti-drone or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) weapon which designed to disable drones by firing electronic waves at unauthorized drones.
Huawei’s portfolio of public safety solutions for the government sector include high-definition video surveillance, broadband trunking, multimedia dispatching and intelligent analytics. These solutions are split across six main solution offerings: convergent command center, cloud-based intelligent video surveillance, smart road safety, 4G mission-critical broadband trunking, agile communication network and secured cloud data center solution.
Huawei said its smart road safety solution is capable of automatic number plate recognition and can track a vehicle across a city through video surveillance. The solution can also generate multiple reports about traffic status in the city. Huawei claims its safe city solutions have been deployed in more than 100 cities across 30 countries.
