Huawei SD-WAN solution leverages cloud to meet consumer needs
Huawei launched a new line of software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) products alongside a series of universal computing gateways at its Huawei Connect 2017 event in Shangai yesterday. The SD-WAN solution provides on-demand connection between branches, branches and data centers, and branches and the cloud, according to the company, improving WAN interconnections using application-level network-wide intelligent path selection, smart acceleration and cloud-based visualized Operations and Maintenance (O&M).
SD-WAN is subset of software-defined networking applied to WAN connections, which allows companies to extend their computer networks over macroscopic distances. The roots of WAN trace back to 1969 with the deployment of ARPANET, a network which served as the basis for the world wide web. With the rise of network functions virtual (NFV) and software-defined networking, some WAN technologies have evolved into SD-WAN. According to a recent forecast by International Data Corporation (IDC), the worldwide SD-WAN infrastructure and services revenues will enjoy a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 69.6% and reach $8.05 billion in 2021.
Huawei made a bid at the SD-WAN market with CloudVPN, which the company discussed at Huawei Connect last year. The business’s current SD-WAN solution is used by industries like finance, retail and MSP. To meet consumer demand for more flexibility and services, Huawei developed a new SD-WAN solution, which leverages the cloud to fulfills these needs.
The new solution pinpoints user-defined applications and encrypted applications. It optimizes a global intelligent traffic scheduling technology to determine an intelligence path selection solution based on the user, application and best path. Huawei and third party, value added-service providers can be deployed on-demand by Huawei’s AR1600 and AR650 series open universal computing gateways. The Agile Controller is responsible for deploying these value added services in minutes, said the company.
SoftBank, a Japanese multinational telecommunications and internet corporation, has started deploying Huawei’s SD-WAN solution. The company said it intends to offer line services for enterprise customers in Japan and beyond. Kevin Hu, president of Huawei Switch and Enterprise Gateway Product Line, said its SD-WAN products are ideal for service providers who sell the service to enterprise businesses:
“Huawei’s innovations are always based on a thorough analysis of customer demands and challenges they are facing. Huawei’s SD-WAN solution helps enterprises rise to the challenges brought about by the rapid cloud-based service development. By creating on-demand WAN-based interconnections for enterprises with the ultimate experience, this solution drives enterprise transformation in the cloud era and helps enterprises achieve business success.”
