Sierra Wireless tests NB-IoT modules

The telco said the new modules are part of T-Mobile’s certification process for NB-IoT

Sierra Wireless announced that testing is underway for its next-generation Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) modules, which are expected to be certified and available for T-Mobile’s Narrowband IoT network in early 2018.

T-Mobile expects to light up the first nationwide NB-IoT network in mid-2018.

Sierra Wireless said that its AirPrime WP77 smart wireless modules are part of T-Mobile’s certification process for NB-IoT. The WP77 provides a dedicated application CPU core running the Linux-based open source Legato application framework with an integrated GNSS receiver to enable tracking and location-based services.

“We’re pleased to work with T-Mobile to increase access to LPWA networks,” said Dan Schieler, senior vice president and general manager, OEM solutions, at Sierra Wireless. The executive explained that the Sierra Wireless AirPrime WP77 modules are integrated with the firm’s AirVantage cloud, providing customers with a device-to-cloud architecture to design innovative LPWA solutions.

In related news, Sierra wireless has launched an integrated vehicle telemetry and connectivity solution for mission-critical fleets.

The company said that its new AirLink MP70 LTE-Advanced vehicle routers now support integrated vehicle telemetry, inertial navigation, and driver behavior features to improve fleet operations and vehicle maintenance.

“Organizations can now monitor all their critical vehicle data and manage their entire fleet through a single pane of glass with our AirLink router and management systems,” said Jason Krause, senior vice president and general manager, Enterprise Solutions, at Sierra Wireless.

The MP70 provides a vehicle networking solution to connect multiple high-bandwidth applications in and around the vehicle, while also providing IT departments with the flexibility to manage mobile assets in the cloud or in the enterprise data center using Sierra Wireless AirLink Network Management solutions.

Sierra Wireless also highlighted that the MP70 integrates out of the box with the AirLink Mobility Manager (AMM) which is an end-to-end network management solution that enables instant network insight and control for centralized and remote management, monitoring and configuration.
