Juniper premieres new product portfolio

Juniper is expanding its portfolio of services with a host of products, which the company said will bring businesses closer to a secure and automated multi-cloud environment.

Enterprises are increasingly transferring on-premise workloads to the cloud. According to RightScale’s sixth annual State of the Cloud Survey consisting of feedback from 1,002 IT professionals, 85% of enterprises have a multi-cloud strategy, an increase from 82% in 2016. The report also found that respondents run 41% of workloads in public cloud and 38% in private cloud.

“The promise of multicloud is to deliver an infrastructure that is secure, ubiquitous, reliable and fungible and where the migration of workloads will be a simple and intuitive process,” said Bikash Koley, CTO at Juniper Networks, in a statement. “For IT to be successful in becoming multicloud-ready, it is critical organisations consider not only the data centre and public cloud, but also the on-ramps of their campus and branch networks. Otherwise, enterprises will face fractured security and operations as network boundaries prevent seamless, end-to-end visibility and control.”

Juniper debuted some new switches aimed at organizations that are refreshing, extending or consolidating data centers. The new QFX10002-60C switch can be used as a spine or an edge device for data center interconnect (DCI). It includes 60×100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) deep-buffer interfaces. The company said it is also adding the QFX5210-64C, a 64x100GbE port spine switch, and the QFX5200-48Y, a 48x25GbE top-of-rack switch, to its portfolio.

Juniper noted it is expanding its campus portfolio to include Juniper Sky Enterprise, which provides visibility into wireless access points with Aerohive Hive Manager NG API integration. According to Juniper, the solution enables operators to launch, configure, and manage switching and security devices, potentially minimizing change errors by 90%. The new EX2300 and EX4300 switches are included in Juniper’s campus portfolio as well.

Juniper’s new NFX150 Network Services platform is included in the extended branch portfolio, combining native branch security and hybrid WAN functionality with wireless 4G and LTE connectivity between branches. It can run third-party virtual network functions (VNFs). The company’s Contrail SD-WAN is being made available with new subscription-based pricing too.

Moreover, Juniper said it is providing a secure and automated way of establishing connectivity to and within public clouds. The company’s secure cloud connectivity solution combines onboarding services with virtual products like vSRX Virtual Firewall or vMX Virtual Route, available in AWS and Azure, to automate the setup of secure IPsec connectivity between data center, campus and branch networks, and virtual private clouds.

“For multicloud to yield meaningful improvements in enterprise IT, the boundaries that have
historically existed between the various places in the network have to come crumbling down,”
said Michael Bushong, vice president of enterprise and cloud at Juniper Networks. “That requires end-to- end security and automated operations across the data center, campus, branch and public cloud. We are bringing the full force of our engineering teams in a bid to simplify networking so that enterprises can migrate from legacy to multicloud-ready and eventually to full multicloud architectures.”
