The German firm said the acquisition of Enlighted will be closed during the third quarter
German firm Siemens expects to close the acquisition of California-based Enlighted, a provider of smart internet of things (IoT) systems in buildings during the third quarter of 2018.
The acquisition was recently announced by Siemens Building Technologies Division, but both parties agreed not to disclose the financial details of the transaction. Under the terms of the acquisition, Enlighted will be managed as an independent legal entity and wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens Industry.
“With this move we are demonstrating our commitment to drive digitalization in the smart building industry,? said Matthias Rebellius, CEO of Siemens Building Technologies, in a statement.
Enlighted?s platform consists of multi-function sensors, distributed computing, its own network, and software applications. The core of Enlighted’s platform are smart sensors which stream data to the cloud. The company’s platform enables reduced energy use, improved space utilization, better environmental management and greater asset utilization, Siemens said.
Enlighted analyzes and visualizes the collected sensor data to drive down operating costs and improve the inner life of a building. These sensors can be installed in every light fixture with the ability to collect data to detect environmental and occupancy changes and react to lighting and HVAC needs in real-time.
In addition, the platform is able to locate people and assets within a building and analyze the occupancy of floors and rooms. Finally, in combination with Siemens solutions, the Enlighted platform can optimize the energy efficiency of HVAC systems.
Siemens has recently announced the acquisition of California-based J2 Innovations, a software framework provider for building automation and the internet of things.
J2 has been operating in the IoT software business over the last ten years with its Fluid Integration (FIN) Framework technology.
Through the acquisition, the two parties are planning to further expand J2?s OEM business globally, with new hires in the U.S. and new offices in Europe and Asia. Siemens also confirmed that J2 Innovations will be managed as an independent legal entity and wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens Industry.
FIN is a next-generation software framework to operate, monitor and control equipment and automation systems for small to large buildings. For OEMs, FIN provides a customizable software framework to speed up their time-to-market. For system integrators, FIN?s interface and engineering tools reduce labor and time required to design and commission building automation systems. For end users such as building owners and facility managers, FIN saves operating and energy costs, Siemens said.
FIN is used in over 20 countries with thousands of installations globally, including offices, buildings, education campuses, hospitals, data centers and many other building types.
Siemens has a wide range of solutions for building automation. One of the firm?s solutions in this segment is the Desigo Control Point, which is a complete building management station designed to simplify operation and monitoring of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting and shading in small or medium-sized buildings.
