PHAZR recently got approval to sell its 5G equipment in the US and Europe
Texas-based PHAZR, which provides 5G virtualized radio network products, aims to start shipping 5G New Radio products for commercial deployments starting in the second quarter of 2019, after the firm received Federal Communications Commission and European CE certification for its 5G millimeter-wave base stations in the U.S. and Europe, the company’s CEO Farooq Khan told RCR Wireless News.
“5G millimeter wave networks will first be deployed in the U.S. as Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile already have access to the 28 GHz and 39 GHz millimeter wave spectrum. Europe will follow soon after with deployments in the 26 GHz millimeter wave band. Millimeter wave bands will be paired with mid-band (3.4-4.2 GHz) spectrum and other sub-6 GHz bands to enhance coverage and reach of 5GNR networks,” Khan said.
The executive added that the PHAZR’s 5G NR vRAN mobility portfolio is currently being trialed today by three major U.S. operators.
“We are engaging with customers in the U.K., Italy and Germany for 26 GHz and mid-band trials next year,” he added.
PHAZR’s 5G vRAN boasts Cliff Computing, where massive antenna arrays, radio frequency and baseband functions are integrated into a single physical unit, reducing latency and eliminating the need for expensive fronthaul, the U.S. company said.
The company highlighted that the RF front-end is highly programmable and capable of supporting frequency bands in the 24 GHz to 40 GHz range with dual polarized multi-antenna arrays.
“PHAZR is the first 5G solutions provider to be granted both FCC and CE certification for millimeter-wave radios. We are very pleased to receive these compliance certifications, which allows us to offer 5G products for early commercial deployments with customers in the US and Europe,” Khan added. PHAZR’s certification covers operation in the 27.5-28.35 GHz, as well as the 31.8 – 33.4 GHz bands.
PHAZR offers 5G millimeter wave systems for the licensed bands in the 24-40 GHz frequency range. The company was founded two years ago and has 30 employees in Texas as well as a software team of more than 30 employees in India.
Earlier this month, Canadian operator TeraGo announced that it will be starting a technical trial in the greater Toronto area utilizing fixed wireless 5G millimeter wave equipment from PHAZR. The trial will use TeraGo’s licensed spectrum in the 24 GHz frequency band; TeraGo operates a national fixed wireless network with thousands of access points across Canada.
