Huawei demos 1.2 Gbps downlink throughput
The Hongqiao Railway Station in Shanghai China, one of Asia’s biggest traffic hubs, has launched a 5G network using Huawei?s 5G digital indoor system that will allow passengers to experience data speeds up to 100 times faster compared to LTE.
Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is one of Asia’s biggest traffic hubs in terms of passenger load, and a showcase for China’s railway system. It handles more than 60 million passengers every year, with more than 330,000 people passing through each day during peak seasons.
As the 5G era approaches, one of the key concerns for telecom operators has been grappling with how to deploy indoor 5G networks to meet the needs of users in high-density areas crowded with thousands of people simultaneously using the network.
Huawei’s 5G Digital Indoor System is currently the industry’s only commercially available system for 5G indoor coverage. ?At the launch event last month, China Mobile Shanghai and Huawei demonstrated a 1.2 Gbps peak rate enabled by the 5G DIS which will enable passengers to download a 2GB high-definition film in less than 20 seconds. ?
?5G will also provide a big boost to cloud services. The railway stations of the future may be more intelligent than we can possibly imagine,? stated Peter Zhou, CMO of Huawei?s Wireless Solution in a press release.
The 5G digital indoor system will enable the railway stations of the future to meet passenger demand for high-speed connectivity, mobile payments, and support 4K HD video calling and multi-way ultra-HD video uploading significantly enhancing passengers’ experience.
The railway station?s 5G network is seen as a key milestone in the city?s commercial 5G deployment laying a solid foundation for a Dual-Gigaband city, with gigabit network speeds on both mobile and fixed networks, according to Shanghai?s Commission of Economy and Information Technology.
“Hongqiao Railway Station is leading the 5G commercial deployment in Shanghai,” said Zhang Jianming, vice-chairman of Shanghai’s Commission of Economy and Information Technology. “It will help speed up digital transformation for all sectors across the digital economy.”
Huawei is a leading force in 5G readiness and development across the globe, with several 5G DIS projects underway which are being built using Huawei chips, integrated designs, and high-performance antennas.?
Huawei?s leading position in 5G has been primarily due to China?s proactive government policies and industry momentum. ?China-based Huawei and ZTE have already established themselves as leaders in the antenna and base station architecture market among global competitors Samsung, Nokia and Ericsson.
