Netherlands-based LoRaWAN network operator Everynet has partnered with tower company Crown Castle to introduce LoRaWAN in 36 cities in the US by the end of 2021. Everynet said the rollout – actually in the country’s 36 ‘top metropolitan areas’ and ‘key logistics corridors’ – will pave the way for a national LoRaWAN network in the US.
Everynet will use Crown Castle’s tower assets in the US, as part of a “15-year commitment”. Crown Castle has around 40,000 cell towers and nearly 80,000 route miles of fiber in the country. A statement from Everynet said: “Crown Castle has the existing infrastructure and deployment capability for the long-term buildout of this network.”
Everynet has existing LoRaWAN networks in Brazil, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the UK. The company offers a neutral-host LoRaWAN infrastructure to mobile network operators and other communications service providers to resell low-power wide-area (LPWA) IoT services to their customers.
The firm cited common LPWA-based IoT use cases for its new network, including “everything from smart refrigeration and asset tracking to water conservation and utilities management”. Everynet worked with Semtech, which owns and licences the LoRa technology and LoRaWAN protocol, on the deal. It flagged up its Ethingz partner programme to recruit new device makers and solution providers to load the burgeoning US network.
