US-based LoRaWAN platform provider Senet has said it is expanding its public LoRaWAN network in the Tampa Bay metropolitan region in Florida. The network extension, covering over 1,600 square miles across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, including the cities of Tampa Bay and St Petersburg, is the largest metropolitan LoRaWAN deployment in North America, the company said.
Senet has the largest LoRaWAN network in the US, with connectivity of some kind in 29 states and 1,300 cities. It claims its US network covers a population of 55 million people, and processes millions of transactions daily. The network in Tampa is billed as its largest and most dense; expansion work in Tampa is going ahead on a “rolling construction schedule” and will be complete by the end of 2021.
The network will provide outdoor and indoor coverage; it is being pitched for energy and utility companies, municipal smart city usage, manufacturing and distribution, asset tracking and multi-location campus enterprise solutions. In particular, it suggested water and gas companies can implement infrastructure monitoring and safety applications and cities and enterprises can deploy low-cost sensors to drive productivity and new services.
Senet is collaborating with regional organizations, partners, and customers to develop local interest in IoT solutions and coverage requirements, it said. The company said in a press statement: “This network will be the largest and densest metropolitan deployment of public carrier-grade LoRaWAN connectivity in North America, providing capacity to support millions of IoT device connections from over 80 planned tower sites.”
