Telenor said it is offering 5G network slicing technology capabilities for its customers
Telenor Sweden announced the launch of new 5G-based services for companies and other businesses, in partnership with Nokia.
In a release, Telenor said it is launching customer-specific mobile private networks that enable these new solutions. In addition, network slicing is offered on Telenor’s 5G network.
“We are in the middle of an exciting shift where each new service can mean great opportunities for service development, efficiency, innovation and security. The network modernization we are carrying out now is of historic proportions and a prerequisite for the technology shift and future-proof services. It is more important than ever that we together with our customers develop new solutions where tests, feedback and dialogue become decisive,” said Malina Borg Sigg, 5G expert at Telenor Sweden.
The Swedish operator noted that the areas of use for mobile private 5G networks are many, and the solutions can be scaled up and down depending on customers’ needs and budget.
“We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Telenor Sweden and provide our high-tech private wireless solutions to digitally transform companies to become more productive, safe and secure,” said Stephane Haulbert, head of Nokia’s global partner business in Europe.
Nokia noted it has deployed mission-critical networks to more than 2,600 enterprise customers in the transportation, energy, manufacturing and public sectors around the world. The company says it has provided expertise in private networks to more than 595 large customers worldwide.
Telenor also highlighted that network slicing is a technique used in mobile private networks, offering companies to handle their specific traffic in a dedicated slice of the network without interference from other data traffic users. That would be used to support connected ambulances or drones for the forestry industry. It is also a solution that is suitable for those customers who want to secure their 5G connection without building network infrastructure themselves, Telenor added.
“It is a perfect service for businesses with high demands on mobility and security. We are only at the beginning of the development of this service, but even now there is an opportunity to have an own network connection for IoT devices at 5G speeds as well as pilots with low response times,” Borg Sigg added.
In April 2023, Swedish multinational furniture retailer IKEA has partnered with Telenor to provide improved mobile coverage for its customers. Under the terms of the deal, Telenor will deliver a mobile network that will be available regardless of mobile operator and that will be in place in all 20 department stores
Telenor said that the DAS network will have capacity for 4G and 5G.
According to the statement, the first department store network, located in Vasteras, was made available in mid-April. The move is expected to enhance the overall shopping experience for IKEA’s customers by providing improved connectivity and access to mobile services.
