ZTE and Telekom Malaysia will work on network and technology planning and overall digital transformation strategies
Chinese vendor ZTE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Malaysian telco Telekom Malaysia (TM) with the main aim of collaborating on a range of research and development areas, ZTE said in a release.
The Chinese company said that the new partnership will leverage Telekom Malaysia and ZTE’s joint expertise to drive innovation and digital transformation for customers and industries in Malaysia. The deal will focus on R&D opportunities and commercialization, product and technology improvement and the enhancement of TM’s digital talent ecosystem.
ZTE also highlighted that the deal with the Malaysian telco, which will run for a three-year period, stipulates that TM will serve as ZTE’s preferred business partner to deploy new solutions, go-to-market strategies, commercialization and networking across various markets and customer segments in Malaysia and regionally.
The two companies will also work on network and technology planning and overall digital transformation by bringing together software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and anything as a service (XaaS) providers to develop customized end-to-end solutions for various industry sectors.

In March, Telekom Malaysia and ZTE had entered into a partnership to build a hybrid cloud 5G core network.
This previous partnership aims to foster innovation in technologies such as bare metal containers, SDN-based architecture, hardware acceleration, CUPS and 3-layer decoupling. ZTE said advances in these technologies would enable TM to build an efficient and reliable 5G core network.
ZTE noted that the rollout will transform the way the Malaysian operator processes data, which could increase the development of future technologies and applications.
The vendor also highlighted that the integration of this converged network will strengthen TM’s capabilities to serve a diverse range of industries, including healthcare, finance, transportation, and education. Additionally, the hybrid cloud 5G core network will foster the growth of smart cities, Internet of Things (IoT), and other next-generation technologies that require fast and low-latency connectivity, according to ZTE.
ZTE also noted that this partnership will accelerate the launch of 5G networks across Malaysia.
